Japanese (Apis cerana japonica) bees were rescued from Osaka Station Front Bus Terminal on April 13th.
Two months have passed since the rescue. What do you think happened?
Since Japanese bees are smaller in size than European honeybees, they cannot use the typical hexagonal honeycomb structures they usually use for their nests. Instead, they had to start building their nests from scratch in empty comb frames.
However, during yesterday’s inspection, it was discovered that they had modified and adapted the honeycomb cells of European honeybees, which were originally placed for food storage, to raise their young.
The staff were deeply moved by their resilience and vitality, and it was truly an inspiring sight.
